Monaro Post 26/11/14
The on court temperature was 45 degrees, however this didn’t take away from the fierce competition
to see who Cooma’s best players are this year.
The Men’s A Grade Final is the game of the day that draws the crowd. This year it was played between
Corey Bedingfield and Simon Bolton. Both players had come off dominant wins early in the day and
were looking in good form. The first game Corey got off to a quick 3 nil lead and looked to gain an
advantage, however Simon started to cut the balls off and put the pressure back onto Corey, leveling
the score at 6 each. Corey regained control and took the first game 9-6. The following two games saw
both players running hard and playing for each shot. Points were going each way and rallies lasted
longer than a couple of minutes. The second game got to 7 points all and Corey showed his dominance
in the later stages of the final two games taking the match and the Men’s A Grade Championship,
winning 9-6, 9-7, 9-5. Court time was just under the hour for this match and both players are to be
congratulated on an excellent match.
B grade champion: Ben Nicholson
Junior Boys champion: Hayden Smith
B grade female champion: Elousie Blanchard

B Grade Winter Comp Weekly Report 18/7/14
In the first week of the Winter competition there were some great B grade matches played. Steve Johnson
(Hillross) had a great match against Kym
Kleven (Paul Dyball Builders) when he took her to five and eventually won 3-2
with only 3 points separating them at the end – 37-34. Youngsters Sam Sergo and
Liam Rankin also for Hillross had good wins against Lachlan Sturgeon and
Matthew Oost and helped their team win 13-8.
Was good to see Aron Rogers back in the comp after a long
absence. He would be the first to admit that his opponent, Sue Walters, took advantage of the fact he would be a
little “rusty” but the fact he lost the 3rd and final game 10-9 showed he would be a
force to be reckoned with as the comp wears on. Alex Corby, playing for the
same team as Aron – Mark Kenmir & Co – made young Corey Stockton (Cooma Trophy & Gifts) run around the
court before winning in 4. Another team member Matthew Kent (good to see you
back Matthew) had a convincing win against Trinity Maat although Trinity made
him work hard for the last game, going down 10-8
Another welcome back to Troy Stevenson who had a win 3-1
against hard-hitting Jason Harris. Jason took the first 9-7 but had no answers to Troy for the next
three. Larry Maat, Dane Freimanis and Jimmy Harding, playing for the same team
as Troy – Snowy Hydro – also had good wins against Narelle Rosewarne, Abby
Freimanis and Brad Constance (Monaro Discount Tyres) which resulted in a team
win of 14-4.
Possibly the best match of the night was between Tony Sergo
and Peter Luk. Tony took the first 9-6 but lost the next two 8-10 and 1-9. He
rallied all his energy to come back and show Peter who was boss by taking the
next two 9-5 and 9-3. Both players played very well during a very long match
with many handouts and came off the court quite exhausted with only 3 points
separating them!

Kailey Makes State Team Again in 2014
Congratulations to Cooma's own Kailey Tonnini who has made the NSW Squash State team for her age again in 2014. This is a terrific effort for Kailey and the club wishes to pass on their full support.

Autum Season Grand Finals
The Autumn
comp has come to a successful end with both A and B grade semis and finals
being played last week. In B grade COOMA CRANES came out the winners (after
leading through the whole comp) defeating SNOWY HYDRO. The team consisted of
Tony Sergo, Corey Stockton, Alex and Leanne Corby and Lachlan Sturgeon. The
stand-out match was between Corey Stockton and Mat Nader. Whilst Corey has not
had such a good run during the comp his new racquet has proved to be a winner
and he made Mat work every game for his eventual win in 5 – going down in the
final game 9-7. Alex Corby took the
first game in his match to work out the cunning shots of Karyn Sutton before
finally defeating her in 3. Kym Kleven
took one game off Tony Sergo (Tony has lost very few games this comp) before
gallantly going down in 4.
It was great
to see Lyn Elton back on the court after a few weeks and she showed she still
has it by only allowing Leanne Corby to score 6 points during the match.
Best in
grade positions were also presented on the night. In A grade they were:
A1 – Corey
Bedingfield; A2 Simon White; A3 James Hain and A4 Darren Davis
B Grade
were:
B1 Tony
Sergo; B2 Mat Nader; B3 Alex Corby; B4 Lyn Elton and B5 Lachlan Sturgeon
The winning
A grade team was;
Corey
Bedingfield, Andrew Egan, Craig Wheatley and Peter Luk.
Runners up were:
Simon
Bolton, Hayden Smith, Jan Wassink and Ira Hendriks
The Winter comp will commence after the school
holidays with social squash and chicken runs during the holidays.

B GRADE
SQUASH REPORT
As the
Autumn comp draws nearer to a close another successful night of squash was
held. Some of the youngsters showed their class in matches. Sam Sergo (Kleven
Spain) took on Ned McDonnell (Cooma Trophies) and played a long 5 game match.
Results went to and fro with Ned coming out the winner – 76 points were scored
showing it was no easy defeat. Richard
Shingles took Eloise Blanchard to 5 before succumbing in the 5th.
Anika Jones
(Mark Kenmir & Co) continued on her winning way by defeating young Corey
Stockton (Cooma Cranes) in four but had quite a few long rallies along the way.
The two Leannes – Corby and Kent – playing for the same teams had a good match
with Corby winning the first but losing the next three giving Kent a 3-1 win. The long-awaited match
between Alex Corby and Darrell Gaukroger
(both having been undefeated this comp) saw Alex having a relatively easy win
in 3.
Larry Maat
(Hillross) took on Susan Walters (Paul Dyball Builders) and they had a good 5
game match with Larry scoring 37 pts to 30 and taking the match. For the same teams Dane Freimanis played
Trinity Maat and they had a very long 5 –setter before Dane won by 3 games 36 pts to 2 games 29 pts.
Kym Kleven
(Snowy Hydro) returned from the ashes of last week’s match and defeated Gerard
Mackay (Monaro Discount Tyres) only allowing Ged to make 18 points. Mat Nader
not only had a good win against Ian Corby but doubled up as a sub and only
allowed high-flyer Tim Wassink to score 10 points. Well done Mat.
As we go
into the final round the team scores show that only 1 team is definitely in the
final four so this week’s result is going to be crucial. Scores are:
Cooma Cranes
98; Snowy Hydro 75; Kleven Spain 72; Mark Kenmir & Co 69; Monaro Discount
Tyres 68; Cooma Trophy & Gifts 66; Hillross 62 and Paul Dyball Builders 48.

B GRADE
SQUASH REPORT
Some
unexpected results last week! Larry Maat (Hillross) trounced Kym Kleven 3-0
only allowing Kym 1 point against his 27! Do I hear A grade calling you Larry?
On the other hand his daughter Trinity for same team proved no match for Lyn
Elton and only scored 4 points. Well played Lyn as Trinity has been improving
weekly. Also for Hillross Darcy Clayton had a good win against the ever cagey
Karyn Sutton and only let her score 14 points. On the bright side for Snowy
Hydro Mat Nader took David Hogan to the cleaners 27 pts to 14.
Sarah
Hamilton proved she can still be a force to be reckoned with by taking B1
leader Tony Sergo to five games – winning the 2nd and 4th
games quite significantly. Well done Sarah! Also for Cooma Trophy and Gifts Tim
Wassink and Ned McDonnell had good wins against Corey Stockton and Leanne
Corby.
Two
newcomers to the game played a 5-setter – Jimmy Harding (Monaro Discount Tyres)
and Abby Freimanis (Paul Dyball Builders). Abby eventually came out the winner
3-2, 39 points to 29. Great to see these youngsters getting right into the
game.
Another
upset was the game between Anika Jones (Mark Kenmir & Co) and Steve Johnson
(Kleven Spain). Talk about changing fortunes – Anika won the first 9-0, lost
the 2nd 9-2, won the 3rd 9-5, lost the 4th 9-3
and won the 5th 9-7. There
were some good long rallies and some excellent shots played before enthralled
onlookers. Similarly there were some up and down scores between Sam Sergo and
Leanne Kent. They were (Sam) 9-1, 5-9, 9-3, 5-9 and 9-6, with Sam coming out on
top 37 pts to Leanne 28.
At the end
of round 6 Cooma Cranes are way out in front on 85 points with only 4 points
separating the next 5 teams –
Snowy Hydro
62; Mark Kenmir & Co 62, Monaro Discount Tyres 61; Kleven Spain 59 and
Cooma Trophy & Gifts 58. With only 2 weeks left before the semis and finals
it’s anyone’s guess for the first four places which gives a good indication of
the gradings.

An excellent
night was had last week with a good turnout of members Cooma Cranes extended
their lead with Tony Sergo, Alex Corby and Lockie Sturgeon winning their
matches against Larry Maat, Darcy Clayton and Bernie Harding respectively
. Was good to see Larry Maat taking a
game off Tony Sergo who is playing great squash.
It was a
close finish between Monaro Discount Tyres and Cooma Trophy and Gifts. Ged Mackay defeated sub (and son) Jeremy Mackay; Ian Corby lost to

Shingles; Aaron Pottage lost to Ned McDonnell and Jimmy Harding had a good win
against Matthew Oost. The end result was 9 games apiece so it came down to
points – Discount Tyres winning by 130 points to 115.
Kym Kleven
and Narelle Rosewarne had a long 4 game match with the end result Narelle
winning by 3-1 with only 3 points separating them at the finish. Karyn Sutton came from behind after losing
the first game to promising youngster Eloise Blanchard and took the next three.

Whilst there
were some great games in round 3 it was very disappointing to have a number of
last minute forfeits. Making it hard on the players who turned up to play their
game.
There was a
great game between Leanne Corby and young Abby Freimanis. Leanne was subbing as
her original opponent was not present. She won the first game 10-9 but lost the
next two 9-5 and 9-2. Not prepared to concede Leanne took a deep breath and won
the final two 10-9 and 10-8 with some long rallies. There were 81 points played
in that match!
Alex Corby
took no time in disposing of Alex Childs in three as did Lockie Sturgeon
against Jimmy Harding. It was left to
another Corby – Ian – to make amends for his team Monaro Discount Tyres when he
played Corey Stockton. They both played
good games but Ian was just too accurate and won in four notwithstanding the
fact that they had some really good long rallies.
Chris Tame
made up for last week’s loss and had all the answers for Kym Kleven’s shots
defeating her in three and only conceding 15 points. Lyn Elton for Snowy Hydro
made up for it by taking Leanne Kent to the cleaners and only conceding 11
points.
Narelle
Rosewarne (Kleven Spain) made Larry Maat (Hillross) work hard when she won in 5
long games. Larry Maat came out the worse for wear sporting a huge bruise on
his cheek from a wayward ball. They finished up 38 points each with the final
game going Narelle’s way 10-8
Bernie
Harding will probably miss out on having his dinner cooked for a few days as he
showed no mercy in defeating his wife Gayle 3-0 and only conceded 7 points!
First four
teams on the ladder are as follows:
Cooma Cranes
44; Kleven Spain 35; Monaro Discount Tyres 31 and Cooma Trophy and
Gifts 30.

B GRADE SQUASH
The second
week of the autumn comp had some interesting matches. For Snowy Hydro Mat Nader
took on Corey Stockton and went to 5 games.
He lost the first to Corey (Cooma Cranes) 9-3 and took the next two 9-6,
9-2. Then Corey found a new lease of life with some great winning shots and won
9-4. Not to be outdone Mat pulled out
all stops and had some great rallies to win the last 9-4. A great exhibition of
good squash. Lyn Elton for Snowy Hydro
proved no match for Leanne Corby to win in 3, then later in the night played
again for Cooma Trophy and Gifts against Trinity Maat and won in 3 once
more. A good result for a player who
travels from Bibbenluke each week to play.
Steven
Johnson overcame his stiffness from last weeks game to demolish Jacqui
Schofield (Paul Dyball Builders) in 3. This was followed up by Jimmy Harding
taking Abby Freimanis to 5. Total points for this match was 77 showing there
were a lot of hand-outs. Jimmy won 3-2 by 40 points to 37. Jason Harris made up for Abby’s loss by
convincingly beating Eloise Blanchard 3-1. For the opposition team Kleven
Spain, Narelle Rosewarne showed some of the talent she still has by only
conceding 7 points to Stuart Wood who was a sub for the night.
Larry
Maat, Darcy Clayton and Bernie Harding
playing for Hillross had wins over Sarah Hamilton, Richard Shingles and Matthew
Oost (Cooma Trophy and Gifts).
First four
teams after round 2 are Cooma Cranes 29, Monaro Discount Tyres 28, Kleven Spain
23 and Mark Kenmir & Co. 21 but with another 8 rounds to go anything could
happen.

For Mark
Kenmir & Co Darrell Gaukroger and Leanne Kent convincingly won their
matches against Darcy Clayton and Trinity Maat, while Chris Tame lost out in a
long 5 game tussle against Larry Maat.
Tony Sergo
(Cooma Cranes) had an eventual win over Sue Walters (Paul Dyball Builders) but
it took him 5 games to do it. Dane Freimanis (in only his second comp) had a
very long game against his more senior Leanne Corby with Leanne taking the 1st
and 3rd games. There were
some good rallies with Dane coming out the winner in 5.
It was good
to welcome Steven Johnson back to the comp after an absence. He is playing for
Kleven Spain and showed that he will be a force to be reckoned with when he
took the well-playing Ian Corby to 5 games before winning the last to take the
set. For the same teams Kleven Spain and Monaro Discount Tyres mother and son
Gayle and Jimmy Harding played a grudge match, with Jimmy taking his mum to the
cleaners and only conceding 8 points.
For Cooma
Trophy and Gifts young Tim Wassink played Mat Nader (Snowy Hydro). Whilst he
won in three the score gives no indication of the good long games they had. For
the same teams Richard Shingles (coerced into coming back to squash) showed the
he still has what takes when he took high flyer Eloise Blanchard to five and
ended up winning the last game 9-1. We hope he was still able to walk on
Friday! Well done Richard!
Welcome to

SQUASH
REPORT
With one
night remaining in the current comp the final four will be decided next week.
Jason Harris
(Hillross) saw his first defeat in 6 matches when he was up against Corey
Stockton (playing as a sub for Snowy Hydro). He won the first game 9-6 but
Corey played some excellent shots to win the next three. Both players put on a
good show and it is hoped that Corey will play in the next comp.
Susan
Walters had a good game with Jed Mackay but her excellent backhand shots proved
too good for him and he went down 9-3,6-9,9-5 and 9-7. Darcy Clayton (Mark
Kenmir & Co) was far too good for Karyn Sutton with an easy 3-0 win,
counteracted by Trinity Maat (Paul Dyball & Co) defeating Gayle Harding
3-0.
Monaro
Discount Tyres had a very close win (8 games, 101 pts) against Cooma Cranes (7
games 99 pts). Larry Maat had a not unusual first two games loss to Narelle
Rosewarne but did his usual trick of climbing back to win the next three games.
Eloise Blanchard and Aaron Pottage had good wins against Kristie Kilpatrick and
Dane Friemanis but both matches had some excellent play from all four players.
Peter Luk
continued his unrelenting form to take an easy 3-0 win against Kleven Spain’s
Tim Wassink with Tim only managing 8 points total. Although he played quite
well he could not match Peter’s uncanny agility to retrieve what would normally
be “ungettable” shots. Looks like goodbye Peter from B grade next comp! Ian Corby (Hydraulinks) had a long 5-setter
against Kym Kleven before winning the final game and taking the set. Sam Sergo
(under his father’s watchful eye) played well against Brad Constance and had a
long match. The scores were 9-10, 9-7,
8-10, 9-6 and 9-3.
This has
ended up with the first five teams (from which the final four should be
decided) as follows:
Hydraulinks
90; Cooma Trophy and Gifts 81; Cooma Cranes 80; Monaro Discount Tyres 79 and
Hillross 76. Good luck next week – and hopefully no forfeits – of which we had
two this week.

SQUASH
REPORT:
Another
successful round was held in “B” grade with all matches completed. Chris Tame
(Cooma Trophy and Gifts) did battle with Susan Walters (Mark Kenmir & Co.)
Susan took the first 9-2 but Chris found some of his quirky shots and took the
next two 9-7,9-2. Susan rallied with some of her well-known backhand shots to
the rear corner and ended up winning the last two 9-1,9-4. For the same teams
Alex Childs and Darcy Clayton had another 5 game match with some excellent
squash played by both these youngsters. After a long tussle Darcy came out the
winner 3-2 with the points being 35-31.
Hydraulinks players Ian Corby and Lachlan
Sturgeon both had 5-setters against David Hogan and Leanne Kent (Snowy Hydro).
Ian eventually lost to David 3-2 even ‘tho he had 36 points against David’s 35.
The Sturgeon/Kent match was just as
close with Lachlan winning 3-2 (33 pts) against Leanne (35 pts). Other team members were Abby Freimanis
against Brad Constance in a very long 4-game match with Abby (a very newcomer
to squash) winning 3-1. She is one young lady to watch! The end result was
Hydraulinks winning 9 games 123 pts to
Snowy Hydro 8 games 124 pts – the one game Brad winning being the clincher and
Peter Luk adding another notch to his belt by beating Stuart Wood 3-0.
Larry Maat
once again lost his first game to Tim Wassink but stormed home when he worked
Tim out 9-6,9-7 and 9-1. Kristie Kilpatrick had no trouble dealing with Leanne
Corby but Sam Sergo had to pull out all stops to win against Dane
Freimanis. These are the other two young
ones (along with newcomer Aaron Pottage) who will become the future faces of
Cooma squash This gave Cooma Cranes a
win against Kleven Spain.
First 5 team
positions are now Hydraulinks 66, Cooma Cranes 65, Hillross 61, Cooma Trophy
and Gifts 56 and Monaro Discount Tyres 55. How close are they!

B GRADE: The
comp is at the halfway mark and once again there were some tearaway wins and
some close matches. Chris Tame and Alex Childs had good wins for their team
Cooma Trophy and Gifts against Tim Wassink and Leanne Corby (Kleven
Spain). However Kim Kleven and young Sam Sergo reversed the results with good
wins against Alex Corby and Sarah Wolf who were able to score 1 game each and
help their team win on the night.
Leanne Kent
(Snowy Hydro) lost her first game against Kristie Kilpatrick (Cooma Cranes)
10-9 but came back to take the next two 9-6 and 9-3. Kristie fought back and
took the 4th 9-1 which meant it went to five. The last was a long
match with the lead swapping several times but it eventually went to Kristie
9-7. Good game ladies – got the applause
it deserved at the end! Larry Maat
continued on his winning way. He did his usual loss of the first game against
Stuart Wood but took the next three.
Abby and Dane Freimanis played each other with sibling rivalry. Dane
narrowly won the first 10-9 but took the next two 9-6 and 9-1. This helped his team win 128-86.
Narelle
Rosewarne had no answers to Peter Luk’s speed around the court and little
well-placed drop shots only able to earn 10 points for the match. Eloise
Blanchard and Aaron Pottage were able to redeem a few points for their team
Monaro Discount Tyres but Hydraulinks won 14-5 – the points were closer at
100-96.
Hillross –
after a shaky start – has climbed up to a close 3rd spot. Tony Sergo, Darrell Gaukroger, Jason Harris
and Amanda Andrich all won their matches against Susan Walters, Jacqui
Schofield, Darcy Clayton and Gayle Harding. Jason is charging ahead this comp winning all
his games so far!
At this
halfway point the team results are:
Hydraulinks
55, Cooma Cranes 53, Hillross 47,Monaro Discount Tyres 44, Cooma Trophy and
Gifts 44, Paul Dyball Builders 44, Kleven Spain 42, Snowy Hydro 40 and Mark

A Grade
Squash Report 25-2-14
Tuesday
evening saw Will Nicholls, playing at number 2 for Kleven Spain come up against
Dirk Phillips representing Hydraulinks. In a torrid encounter both came out
fighting with each keen to hold centrecourt position, often at the expense of
personal safety. Game 1 went down to the wire with Phillips dominating the
front with a series of short boasts and drop shots and Nicholls playing a
longer shot for the corners. 2 missed double faults from the marker allowed
Phillips to escape with a tight 10-8 win. Injustice served to fire up Nicholls
who ran away with the second game 9-1. Game 3 saw Phillips take a handy lead to
4-0 before Nicholls walked into a straight drive from Phillips which left an
indelible mark on his left thigh. As if the pain wasn’t enough the stroke
awarded against him galvanised Nicholls to recover to 5-4 before going down9-5
in a somewhat angry encounter. Both players settled in the fourth and Nicholls
composed himself to take the game 9-3 as a more disciplined game of driving
deep and avoiding being hit paid off. Unfortunately Nicholls ran out of steam
and in the 5th had nothing to answer Phillips cunning drop shots and
high speed boasts which allowed him to take the game 9-1 and the match 3-2.
Again squash was the winner.
B Grade SQUASH
REPORT: 27/2/14
Once again
there were some interesting and surprise B grade matches. In one match Tony
Sergo (Hillross) who had been previously undefeated went down to some brilliant
play by Peter Luk (Hydraulinks) in a 5-setter. Some of Peter’s shorter and
slower strokes caught Tony off guard and he just could not get to them in time.
Both played excellent squash on the night. To make amends for Hillross Darrell
Gaukroger had a surprise win against Ian Corby 3-0.
For Paul
Dyball Builders Gerard Mackay and Trinity Maat played and won 5-setters against
Stuart Wood and Abby Freimanis respectively.
Ged took advantage of Stuart having a cramp towards the end of the match
and took the last game 9-0, while Trinity (who is playing better each week)
took her last game against Abby (Snowy Hydro) 9-2.
In another
long match Larry Maat (Cooma Cranes) took on Susan Walters, losing the first
two 9-2 and 9-0. Spectators, thinking it was all over, then saw him take the
next game 9-6 then 9-1 and 9-6 in the final to win the match. Well played
Larry. Teammates Sarah Hamilton and Dane Freimanis also won their matches
against Jacqui Schofield and Gayle Harding (Mark Kenmir & Co.) to give
their team a convincing win.
Narelle
Rosewarne (Monaro Discount Tyres) took on Chris Tame (Cooma Trophy & Gifts)
and fought a long hard 5-setter before winning the last 9-3.
Eloise Blanchard also had a long match against Alex Childs. Both of these
up and coming youngsters played well but Eloise came out the winner 3-2.

with Trinity being the only one to win a point for her team. Alex Childs, one
of our upcoming junior members (who is also playing golf very well) scored 27-4
against Karyn Sutton who was previously undefeated.
Jason Harris
(Hillross) again played a powerful game against Eloise Blanchard (who has been
playing very well) and won 3-1 but his team lost to Monaro Discount Tyres 10-6.
Another
wipeout went to Darcy Clayton (Mark Kenmir and Co) when he played Leanne Corby
and only conceded 3 points in the match. However his team succumbed to Kleven
Spain 9-6 when Kim Kleven and Sam Sergo had good wins – Tim Wassink saved the
day for them by pinching one game from Susan Walters.
The match of
the night was undoubtedly between Larry Maat (Cooma Cranes) and Peter Luk
(Hydraulinks). The very long 5-setter
kept swapping leads with good rallies in every game. Both men came off the
court sweating profusely but kept the audience entertained with some excellent
squash. Peter came out the eventual winner – the game scores were
7-9,9-6,9-5,6-9 and 9-4. His win, along with Ian Corby (vs Sarah Hamilton) and
Brad Constance (vs Dane Freimanis) giving his team an 11-7 victory.

A+ B Grade Round 1 2014 Match Reports
A Grade
B Grade
Last Tuesday night saw the opening round of the Cooma Squash
A Grade Autumn Comp. The new 6 teams of 6 players format was fully subscribed
and saw many players rankling at their new-found gradings and keen to prove the
graders wrong. The return of Andrew Nowland to Cooma after more than a decade
spiced up the A1 which has been dominated by Corey Bedingfeild and the Bolton
Twins in his absence.
The A3 match between Craig Wheatley (Mark Kenmir & Co)
and Braden Skinner (Hillross) attracted plenty of interest. Skinner , returning
from a long period of injury enforced absence looked set for a walkover based
on prior form.
Wheatley surprised, taking the first game 9-6 while
Skinner was getting his bearings. Skinner retaliated with a 9 -3 drubbing in
the second setting up a tight 3rd game. Wheatley took a handy lead
in game 3 with his usual selection of unorthodox reverse boasts and
unanticipated drives before Skinner rounded him up to take the game 9-5 after
playing a disciplined game of deep drives. Game 4 looked to swing the other way
with Wheatley again taking an early lead only to before Skinner’s tactical
experience stole the match with a 9-6 finish. The final result of 3-1 to
Skinner didn’t reflect the intense competition on the court.
B Grade
B grade has
got off to a flying start with 9 teams of 4 players. It was great to see new
faces at the courts – particularly younger players Aaron Pottage, Dane
Freimanis and Abby Freimanis. Will be interesting to see if Dane and Abby
follow in the footsteps of their father and grandfather, some of the best
players Cooma has seen.
Ged Mackay
came out with all guns blazing against Larry Maat and won the first, but
Larry’s fitness won out and took the next three games. Tony Sergo rejoined the
comp after a long absence but proved he is a force to be reckoned with by only
conceding 10 points to up-and-coming young player Tim Wassink.
The
Christmas break proved too much for husband and wife Alex and Leanne
Corby. They each went down 3-0 to David
Hogan and fiery Jason Harris conceding 12 points and 13 points respectively.
However everyone will get into their stride as the comp continues.
An
interesting match was held between Darcy Clayton and Eloise Blanchard – another
two of our ever-improving juniors. Darcy took the first two games 9-2,9-4 but
Eloise went into overdrive and won the next three 9-5,9-5,9-6 to win the match.
Was great to
see Narelle Rosewarne back with us but she has not hit her straps yet and found
the going tough against Sue Walters, going down in three.
